Can’t do an in-depth post from here, but one overarching (if somewhat obvious) observation.
Attacking the public sphere with machetes, which is what Team Ford’s plan seems to be, is going to have profoundly damaging effects on the community. It will have impacts in so many respects that they’re almost impossible to count, let alone anticipate. When you start tearing apart the bonds that hold a community together, you can’t know what’s going to be left to keep it from falling apart. Has Ford Nation considered that? (Not really a rhetorical question.)
Toronto will be a smaller, sadder, meaner place if these knuckle-draggers get their way. And for what? How does any of this make us better as a society, as a community, as a city?
