I’ve gone on and on about the need to cultivate critical-thinking skills in the continuing battle against stupidity.

It’s not an easy fight, given the resources devoted to cultivating it. There’s a great deal invested in keeping people disengaged, distracted, and too messed up to reflect and think things through. For evidence of that we need look no farther than the extent to which political operators rely on emotional manipulation rather than thoughtful considered arguments.
