Children with FASD need public support. So do their parents

A story in yesterday’s Star describes the unique challenges characterizing Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

FASD isn’t on the radar as much as it should be. It’s frequently misunderstood and confused with autism or other developmental disorders. That needs to change.

This Star piece isn’t the first story to discuss FASD, and I hope it won’t be the last, but either way, it’s got policy implications that need further exploration. How we deal with situations like this, and with kids like these, says a lot about who we are as Canadians, as a community, and as a society. More to come.
